Kids Helping Kids
The Kids Helping Kids program aims to educate youth on various humanitarian issues and to teach them how to give back to their local and global community. Parents can make use of educational resources available online to teach their children about the Millennium Development Goals. Kids participating in the program will raise funds for First Nations children in Canada and for school children in Pakistan. Register your child online today and he or she will receive a free fundraising kit and a chance to win numerous prizes. Children will receive a fundraising certificate upon completion, and top achievers will be honoured at IDRF’s Annual Gala.
Education and Awareness:
The RISE-UP! To End Poverty campaign also aims to engage children and youth through the Kids Helping Kids Program. The program is designed to educate young minds about the world by teaching them about the UN’s Millennium Development Goals and about other children around the world. Children have access to numerous educational materials online which include activities, lesson plans, words searches, crosswords, and much more.
In addition, the Kids Helping Kids program aims to educate children on giving back to their local and global communities. The philanthropic efforts they undertake at this young age will help them see the importance of personal efforts, no matter how big or small, and will help them realize that everyone can be actively involved in making the world a better place. Our hope is that children can get involved at this young age to learn about the world and to become better global citizens as they grow up.
Child Beneficiaries:
Children taking part in the program will be fundraising for two IDRF projects benefiting children in Canada and Pakistan. Funds raised will support the following two projects:
1) Eel Ground School Breakfast Program in Canada:
One in four First Nations children live in poverty and face inadequate food, clothing, and basic health care needs. IDRF supplies First Nations children in New Brunswick with a nutritional breakfast to ensure better health and improved school performance.
2) Helping Kids Learn to Read and Write in Pakistan:
Pakistan’s literacy rate is very low and children living in rural, underprivileged areas lack the opportunity to go to school and learn. IDRF supports various schools in Pakistan to ensure poor children have an equal opportunity to attain a quality education.

Prizes, Awards, and Recognition:
Each child that signs up for the Kids Helping Kids program will receive a free fundraising kit. Children will also get the chance to win numerous prizes, which include a Nintendo DS Lite and an Apple iPod Nano. In addition, children who go above and beyond may also be featured on the RISE-UP! website and in various IDRF publications. Top achievers will be honoured at IDRF’s annual gala.
Upon the competition of the program, IDRF will also recognize every child’s contribution and efforts by sending him or her an Honourary Certificate recognizing his or her achievement.
Fundraising Images and Short Stories:
Children are encouraged to take lots of pictures while wearing their free Kids Helping Kids t-shirts and while fundraising with family and friends. Pictures and stories can be sent to IDRF via the website in the Kids Helping Kids section, or by mail or email.
Encourage your children to be creative; some photos and stories may be featured on the website or in IDRF publications!
Sending Back Donations & Tax Credible Receipts:
Once children have finished fundraising, we ask that parents help them count the funds raised and send back a donation by October 1st, 2009. Donations can be made by cheque, money order, or through our secure online donation form. IDRF will issue a tax credible receipt in the parents name for donations made over $10. In order for receipts to be issued and for your child’s fundraising efforts to be recognized, we ask that parents also fill out a Kids Helping Kids Donation Form, which has been provide in every fundraising kit and is also available online in the Kids Helping Kids section for online submission.
Once the form and the donation have been submitted, IDRF will:
- Issue the parents a tax credible receipt for donations over $10
- Will print an Honorary Certificate for the child recognizing their achievement and fundraising efforts.
- Will enter the child into a draw where they can win one of numerous prizes.
Please note: If you have more than one child participating in the program, we ask that you fill out a separate donation form for each child.
More information on the Kids Helping Kids Program can be found in each child’s fundraising kit as well as on the website in the Kids Helping Kids section.
