Joining Together to Alleviate Poverty –IDRF Coalition Memberships

Over its 25 years of service, IDRF continues to join forces with various organizations to work together to alleviate poverty and to mitigate the severity of natural and man-made disasters. By joining forces with others who are striving toward similar goals, we can meet the needs of more disadvantaged individuals and can strive toward achieving the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals. Together we can raise awareness about the issues troubling our planet and can work together to the address the needs of those in need of our help.

The following is a list of coalitions IDRF belongs to:

IDRF is a member of the Canadian Council for International Co-operation (CCIC). The coalition “seeks to end global poverty, and to promote social justice and human dignity for all.” In order to become a member of the CCIC, organizations must fall under the voluntary sector and adhere to the CCIC’s Code of Ethics. This code outlines the importance of partnerships, diversity, and sharing the common goal of international development. IDRF is proud to be a part of this team which also includes UNICEF Canada, Canadian Red Cross, and OXFAM Canada.

IDRF is a proud member of SWAN Canada, which is a “coalition of Canadian non-governmental organizations united in the belief that improving global access to safe, affordable, and sustainable water supply and sanitation services must be a foreign aid priority for the Government of Canada.” SWAN Canada also aims to raise the profile of the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals and also seeks to take action against poverty by improving access to clean water and basic sanitation.

IDRF is proud to be a partner of the RS Foundation, a non-profit Canadian organization which was established in 2007 to assist in poverty eradication and to address the needs of those less fortunate in various parts of the world. The foundation places special emphasis on the South Asian sub-continent, while collaborating with established, registered institutions on a project-by-project basis. The RS foundation helps raise funds for international projects while fostering education and knowledge locally.

Make Poverty History Canada aims to mobilize Canadians and the Canadian Government to take action against poverty, both at home and abroad.  IDRF proudly endorses the campaign, which like RISE-UP seeks to raise awareness about absolute poverty and aims to mobilize Canadians to take action.
