The Only Gift Madeeha Wanted Was the Gift to Help Others
Read this child’s inspirational story!
“It was her wish to give to a charity and upon researching IDRF with us she wanted to give to the refugees of Swat Valley in Pakistan. Madeeha said she had everything she needed and instead she wanted to help others who had lost everything” said Madeeha’s parents. “We are very proud of our daughter and her decision to give back to the community.” Madeeha celebrated her Ameen on July 12, 2009 at Chauhan's Restaurant in Markham. The donations IDRF received on behalf of Madeeha and her friends and family were allocated to help the refugees of Swat Valley in Pakistan.
Madeeha, a 9 year old girl who is entering grade 4, was inspired to help others after a recent trip to Pakistan. In December 2008, Madeeha visited Pakistan with her family and got the chance to see up close the poverty and hardships people are facing. She realized how fortunate she was to have a family that could afford the basic necessities in life and more. Living in Canada, Madeeha felt was lucky to live in a country where war conflicts did not threaten the safety of her family and community. With her Ameen approaching, Madeeha suggested to her parents that she not receive gifts for the event but rather have guests donate to a charity project of her choice.
